Lion Brand put together an amazing collection of patterns for the 12 Weeks of Christmas - and one of those patterns is the Snowdrifts Afghan!
Disclaimer: This post includes affiliate links; yarn provided by Lion Brand.
The Snowdrifts Afghan features a stitch pattern I started using last Christmas season - but this time I've paired it with squishy sparkly Wool-Ease Thick & Quick! The two colorways used - Mystical and Celebration - both feature a gorgeous and eye-catching metallic thread. It's not easy to capture on camera, but in person, it gives this blanket a lot of oomph!
You can get the Snowdrifts Afghan pattern now as a kit from Lion Brand Yarn! Or you can get the pattern free below!

The link to the Video Tutorial is incorrect. It goes to Happy Holidays Tree Skirt & Stocking Tutorial
Tamara Kelly
It is correct, it is the same stitch pattern. 🙂

Oh OK! Thanks, Tamara!

Do you have any suggestions for a good yarn substitution for those of us that can't use wool? I love wool, but my skin doesn't! 😀
Tamara Kelly
Yes! I would recommend Lion Brand Hometown USA *or* Heartland Thick and Quick, whichever colors you prefer. Both are 100% acrylic and the same weight. 🙂
Jamie
Thank you!

I love the looks of this afghan. Directions looks simple enough to follow. Might adjust it on one end to ry and make a snuggy with it. Been looking for a simple snuggy pattern. But not coming up with one.
Tamara Kelly
I hope you enjoy making it! Thank you!

Hello! I've been enjoying your site for a long while now. Lovely, lovely pattern. I would like to make it in a worsted (#4) yarn. Would you have any suggestions for the amount of yarn I might need? I want to do it in an ombre, so getting enough of the same die lot will be an issue - want to make sure I have enough! Thank you in advance for any and all help! (BTW, I have my friend hooked on your site too!)
Tamara Kelly
Hello Anj! To determine the amount of yarn, you'll need to make a swatch and see how much yarn that uses. 🙂
And thank you!
Anj
Wow! You just opened a whole new door for me. NOW I know how to figure yarn requirements for anything I might crochet and any yarn I might use. Being an engineer I have to wonder why I NEVER thought of that myself! Thank you again!
Tamara Kelly
I'm so glad I could help! 😀
Becky
The patterns finished size is 38” x 48”. If I wanted to make it larger like say 50” x 65”...how would I need to change the pattern? Or should I just choose another pattern?
Tamara Kelly
Hello Becky! The stitch multiple is listed above: Stitch Multiple: mult of 6 +5, +2 for the tch
But even easier, I would recommend the long chain method: https://www.mooglyblog.com/long-starting-chains-made-easy/
Anj
You are such a help! I greatly admire you.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you so much!
