Reverse Single Crochet (RSC), also known as the Crab Stitch, is a great, modern edging for your work. Perfect for everything from blankets to bags, it gives a firm edge with real visual interest. It takes a bit of practice, but it's worth it. And now there's a moogly video tutorial!
How to Crochet the Reverse Single Crochet/Crab Stitch - Right Handed
How to Crochet the Reverse Single Crochet/Crab Stitch - Left Handed
So as you can see, the Reverse Single Crochet is worked from left to right, and while it takes some practice, it's a great stitch to have in your arsenal. It is hard to crochet into though, so it's generally used for edgings and borders. Give it a try! And thanks for watching.

I like your blog and your patterns. This is the second time I've been here today. I want to let you know, though, that the link to your facebook page is broken. Hopefully you'll get it fixed by the next time I'm here so I can "like" your page. You can visit me at https://www.facebook.com/CozyCornerCrochets?ref=tn_tnmn

Just wanted to let you know--I did a search for crab stitch (in the blog) and didn't get this tutorial--I had to click from the sidebar. I don't know if you can tag or reference it so that it shows up, but you might want to. Thanks, I needed the video and I knew it was right here, it was nice to have the resource!

Thanks for letting me know Cory! I'll try to get it more searchable. 🙂

Nancy
Tried a few videos and some books before I found your tutorial. Easy to follow, not a lot of extra chatter and I've got it now! Thanks!
Flo

Just watched the reverse crochet video for the umpteenth time for a project I'm doing. I can never remember how to do it because I don't use it often, but I don't have to worry, because I can just go back and hear your very nice voice explaining it to me yet again, and you never say, "Sheesh, haven't you memorized it already??"
Thanks a million!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thanks so much Gillian!

thank you so much for your tutorial on reverse sc. I have been working on a blanket for my grandson and it called for a reverse sc. I looked everywhere...even a tutorial but they didn't help. Came on to your website and I got it almost immediately! Yes it does take a little practice but your tutorial was very visual and well explained. Thank you again!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much Mary, I'm so glad it helped!
Wendy
Thanks to your video tutorial for the crab stitch I finally figured out what I was doing wrong! And now that I know how wonderful your videos are, I'm sure I will be back again. Thank you so much for the time you invest in helping fellow crafters learn new things or just maybe learn another way to do something. Thanks again!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much Wendy! I'm so glad it helped!

good morning..i was wondering if you could show me how to finish off the crab stitch when going around a 12 pointed star pattern..i love both these for new born s and do them all the time ..but my endings just dont look all the good..kinda messy if i do say say so ..thanks for any help you can give and love your tutorials..<3
Tamara Kelly
I can't refer to the 12 pointed star portion, but to finish it off I like to cut the yarn and pull it on up through the last stitch (no knot), and then use the seamless finishing technique, sewing into the first stitch (to the right).
Sandra
Thanks for the exceptionally clear tutorial. After forty+ years of crocheting, it's always great to learn something new.

🙂 Thank you so much Sandra!

Your videos are always a great help to me and this one is no exception. I finally understand how to do the crab stitch!! I have just completed a throw and want to use it for my border. Most border/edging patterns I have read tell you to work two or more stitches in each corner. How many crab stitches need to be put in the corners? Thanks so much.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you so much Linda! I would probably work 3 in each corner.
Eleanor
Hi Tamara, could you please add a video for left handed reverse single crochet? I usually have no trouble reversing a right handed video but this stitch I just can't get the hang of :-(. Thanks!
Tamara Kelly
I'll get right on it, thank you Eleanor!
Nancy
The left handed video is flipped nicely for us, but what you say in it isn't. The loops have to go to the left, not the right. Might be confusing for some people.
