It's the final countdown... ♪ ♫ This CAL is almost done for the year, just these last 3 blocks and then the joining! So let's get to it - here's block #22 in the Moogly Afghan Crochet Along!
Did you find this CAL too late to do it "live"? That's okay! Theses posts will be here for a long time to come. Here's the scoop on what's going on:
- No need to sign up/officially join - just jump in and start crocheting! Work at your own pace.
- The blocks will stay free online forever. See the schedule below for all the past block links.
- I link to the designer's pattern below, share a photo of my version of their block, and give any helpful notes that are appropriate.
- Each 12" square is designed in worsted/aran weight yarn, with a 5.5mm hook. If you choose a different yarn weight/hook size, your blocks will be a different size, but as long as you are consistent, then the blocks should be too! For example, with DK weight yarn, you should get blocks that are about 10" in size.
- French translation PDFs are provided on each designer's site, courtesy of Véronique HoRaive! Merci Véronique!
- There is a Ravelry group for the CAL HERE, and a Facebook group HERE - all full of help and camaraderie! Thank you to all of the amazing volunteer moderators! It's a great place to go if you need more help with a particular design!

Block #22: Contours Square by Pia Thadani on Stitches 'n' Scraps: CLICK HERE to go to the pattern page but first, read my notes below! Here's Pia's square:
And here's the one I made, using all 6 of my colors:
Now for my notes!
- To print this pattern or create a downloadable PDF, open a new tab with PrintFriendly.com, and paste the pattern URL in the bar there.
- This pattern was super unique, yet simple and fun! The instructions are clear, and there are lots of photos to help.
- After the square was all put together, it was 11" for me, so I added one more round of dc around the outside and that got me to 12". But everyone is different so be sure to measure as you go! Learn more about adjusting for size HERE. Remember that the 12″ is measured across and up and down – not diagonally corner to corner.
- I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, and my color scheme was as follows – Semicircle 1: Rows 1-3 - Rose Mist, Rows 4-6 - Tangerine Mist, Rows 7-9 - Seaspray Mist; Semicircle 2: Rows 1-3 - Tangerine Mist, Rows 4-6 - Seaspray Mist, Rows 7-9 - Denim Mist; Semicircle 3: Rows 1-3 - Seaspray Mist, Rows 4-6 - Denim Mist, Rows 7-9 - Purple Mist; Semicircle 4: Rows 1-3 - Purple Mist, Rows 4-6 - Rose Mist, Rows 7-9 - Tangerine Mist; All Border Rows - Pearl Mist.
- If this one isn't to your taste, you can find a list of alternatives HERE!
Thanks so much for crocheting-along with me!

Great block, I can't wait to give it a go. Is block four 1-3 PM: 4-6 RM: 7-9: TM? I am using the same Lion Brand color palette (shameless copying Tamara)!
D.
Sorry, I meant to write semicircle four.
Tamara Kelly
Heh, apparently I knew what you meant!
Tamara Kelly
Thank you! 😀 You are right, I apologize - I changed it at the last minute but forgot to change my notes. 😛
Meg
I'm just now stumbling across this, and it looks like a lot of fun. I've tried several blankets and get bored about a third of the way through, so I usually stick with Beanies, scarves, wrist warmers, bags, etc. Things that stitch up a little quicker. This looks like the perfect solution to that though! Will you be doing it again in 2017? If so, I'd probably prefer to work some other projects I'd had in mind, and just pick up with the new year. Otherwise, I may decide to go back through and do this one.
Also, how hard are most of the squares? I wouldn't say I'm a beginner, but I don't know if I'd quite call myself intermediate either. I've done one or two "intermediate" projects, that's about it.
Thanks!
Tamara Kelly
Hi Meg! Thank you! 😀 Yes, I'm planning 2017 right now! The patterns vary, but some people substitute others they've found in the past when they don't care for the current one, or feel it doesn't fit their skill level. Plus, since everyone is working them together, there's a lot of help and guidance to go around - making the CAL a great way to increase your skills too! 😀
Dolores Cowie
Wow, still working on this block, Tamara what colors did you use for seaming?
Thanks

I used the Pearl Mist to join the 2016 blanket! 🙂 You can see the finished blanket here: https://www.mooglyblog.com/mooglycal-2017/
