After sharing the Loopy Love Blanket and matching Loopy Love Hats, I had a request for matching booties! And so, I took on the challenge of creating my very first baby booties pattern - the Loopy Love Newborn Baby Booties!
Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links; materials provided by Red Heart Yarns and Furls.
The Loopy Love Newborn Baby Booties were just too fun to make. And the inspired some bigger sizes too - see the links below for bigger baby booties, and toddler sizes as well!
Because of the front post decreases, this could be considered an intermediate pattern, but I think it's ultimately pretty simple as long as you watch your posts stitches and keep counting. Plus there's a step by step photo tutorial! The post stitches make them warm and stretchy, and match the brim of the Loopy Love Hat. And the fold over cuffs feature the signature Loopy Love stitch pattern!

I would absolutely LOVE this pattern in about a 12 month size and maybe a toddler size?! Not many booties patterns for toddler and my daughter loves to maych her baby sister. I cant give you much feedback on patterns since im pretty new to the crocheting game. But thank you so much for a beautiful pattern!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you Vanessa! That's very helpful!
Kay Tuschel
These are adorable, would love larger sizes and bonnet to match!
Tamara Kelly
Thanks Kay! 😀
Kim Grigsby
GREAT tutorial!! The pictures are wonderful and VERY helpful!
Tamara Kelly

Noriko
Beautiful!!!! Please do all sizes because I want one pair
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you Noriko! Looks like I've got some slipper designing to do!
Penny
Sooooo cute!!!
BJMarley
I'm behind on baby gifts so a 3 or 6 month size would be great.
Angie Gordey
Yes please! These booties are sooo adorible! What a great job. A sweet couple from my Church had a precous baby girl last month. I wasnt able to buy anything but I can crochet....lol....so will you please add the pattern for a 3-6 months old! Thank you so much for this lovely pattern 🙂
Tamara Kelly
Hi Angie, and thank you! You can find the next sizes up at https://www.mooglyblog.com/loopy-love-big-baby-booties/ 😀
chickie
These are just perfect Tamara! Up to toddler size, say up to pre-school size would be wonderful. Once they can walk, a few dabs of puffy paint on the soles to stop slippage would be needed. I have noticed that some babies tend to kick their booties off...those who have very active legs...so, perhaps a simple strap with buttonhole made separately then sewn into the centre back to give a simple angle strap?? Just a thought 😀

Tamara Kelly
Good idea! That or you could thread a ribbon through under the cuff! 🙂
Regina
these are adorable! definitely make other sizes please 🙂
Tamara Kelly
Thanks Regina! Will do!
elina
Bigger sizes, such as a childs size one and 2 would be very helpful for children who cannot walk due to disability or illness.
Tamara Kelly
I hope to add child and adult sizes eventually! 🙂
dora

Thanks Tamara they are too gorgeous! Have got 4 new babies arriving in the next 2 months so will make lovely pressies! And thanks for making your web site so user friendly, followed your steps to downloading the pdf! Fantastic!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you Amanda! 😀 And I'm so glad the tutorial helped too! I was afraid of comments telling me that the pattern took 30 pages to print out lol...
Mrs Vee makes
I agree the tutorial is fabulous! I am a long time crocheter but booties have given me a headache:) To make in a large size, could I just use a larger hook? Thanks for sharing this pattern. I will be trying it in the future as I have made your Neon Dreams Infinity scarf for my grandson:)
Tamara Kelly
Hi Mrs. Vee! Thank you! I think you could try a larger hook, but they'd be a bit holey, so you'd probably want to try a thicker yarn like Red Heart with Love as well. I am hoping to add larger sizes for the pattern soon too!
Pamela
Love them. All your work is beautiful! You should go ahead and make them in multiple sizes and add a hat and sweater. You know you want to and we or I would love for you to. This stitch is gorgeous in the ways you have used it. Thank you for your patterns. Th3y are lovely.
Monica
Tamara, these are probably the CUTEST teeny little booties I have ever seen!!! I love them and the colors you chose here are so sweet! Thanks for sharing this pattern…very easy to understand with really clear pictures.
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much Monica!
Paula Lewis Bray

Tamara Kelly
Thank you Paula! 😀
Liisa

Tamara Kelly
Thank you Liisa!
miphii
So cute!
Can you make these in bigger sizes, perhaps for toddlers?
Or can you continue making booties, because they're great!
The stitching is so beautiful.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you! 😀 I've gotten lots of positive feedback, so larger sizes are definitely on the horizon!
Joan
LOve the booties. I have a new granddaughter coming in about a month. I am going to make her a few pairs to match her outfits. I love your patterns and directions are so easy to follow. Thanks to you she will have loopy boots and booties. I couldn't make booties before I came across your site.
Tamara Kelly
😀 Congratulations on the new granddaugter Joan! And thank you!
Stephanie
Thanks so much for this pattern! My friend had her baby girl this morning and I was looking for a booty pattern to crochet. Thee look perfect! Can't wait to start them!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you Stephanie!
Stephanie
I love these! They are completely adorable. I would love to see these in larger sizes, even up to toddler sizes. I think they would make for some adorable house shoes for toddlers.
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much Stephanie!
Judy
Thank you so much Tamara for all of the Loopy Lou Patterns. I too would like more sizes and as some said a bonnet/beanie and sweater too would be great though maybe having them all would be too much of a good thing on at the one time, though we could mix and match. I hope to do these and the others asap. Unfortunately I don't have a grandchild on the way no matter how much I wish I've got all I'm getting though its possible I might get a great grandchild but hoping not yet. Would like them to have some fun first. Other than that these patterns are all the sweeter cause your name is Tamara and so is one of my daughters. Its not your name that makes these patterns special its the GREAT work you do. I'll show you my work when I do them if I can work out how to upload. Thank you also for the tutoring in using the print friendly and how to cut down on what you want to print. Thanks again
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much Judy! There are indeed beanie patterns, linked at the top of the page, as well as the blanket. 🙂 A bonnet is a fun idea though! And there are certainly more sizes of the booties to come. Good luck on the grandbaby front! 😉

Help!
After I do a round with fpdc2tog, I don’t know how to do the next round of force over the stitches that are ‘ together’. Do I post over both of them and so that would mean I also post over the 3 too?
Thanks.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Carol! When working a post stitch around a post stitch decrease, you would go around both "legs." Does that help? 🙂
CarolAnn O'Rourke
Yes it does! Counted and retried several times before I realized why I wasn’t decreasing! Thank you!
Tamara Kelly
Oh good, glad to hear it! 🙂 I hope the rest of the pattern is easy for you!
fran
Love them! would like more sizes like 0-3 months and 3-6 months and 6-9 months and heck all sizes 🙂
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you fran! I'd love to!
Maria
Hello, I got the pattern and began working on it etc.. I have a problem with what a fpdc3tpg is. Is there written instructions available for this stitch and if so could you share the written link? Thank you. I hope to hear from you soon
Tamara Kelly
Hi Maria! It's a front post double crochet 3 together. I don't have a video tutorial for it, but assuming you know how to work a front post double crochet if you've gotten to this point, then it's just a 3 tog decrease. Start the fpdc on the first st, stop with 2 loops left on the hook, start a fpdc on the next st, stop with 3 loops left on the hook, start a fpdc on the next st, stop with 4 loops left on the hook, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops. 🙂 Does that help?
Maria Torres
Thank you for your response. Yes, this has helped a lot. I am almost done with the booties. I've taken the booties to a dark place and added skulls from spider mambo instead of the ruffle.. lol.. how can I share a picture of my Frankenstein monster to you? This has been truly a challenge for me since I've never made baby booties that were so cool
Tamara Kelly
😀 They sound amazing! I'd love to see a photo if you'd like to share it on the Moogly Facebook page!
Nancy
I am anxious to start on the booties. I will make the booties as a volunteer for new born babies.
Thank you.
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you Nancy!
cara
Would it make much difference to use worsted weight yarn?
Tamara Kelly
It would make them a bit bigger. 🙂
Clotilde/Craftybegonia
Totally precious, will post to my Baby Cutesies Pinterest board.
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you Clotilde!

I love these booties, i am new to crocheting, i was wondering if there was a step by step video ? my soles either are never the same size, or i am on track with the stitches and somehow will end up with the wrong count at some point.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you Maria! I'm afraid there's not a video at this time.
Jackie
Hi there,

Anitha
Hello, I wanted to try making a pair of crochet baby booties and came across your pattern. I just finished making them and they look adorable. The instructions were so clear and images, self explanatory. I also felt that the fpdc somehow made the booties 'cushiony' and soft. Thank you very much for the pattern 🙂
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much Anitha!

I am having a problem with Row 3. I end up wit 4 stitches left. I ripped out 2 rows and when I finish row 3, I still end up with 4 stitches left. What is the problem?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Linda! It's hard to say without being there, my only guess is that you aren't increasing in the first and last stitch of Row 2?
Linda
No, I am not increasing. I backed up to the first row. I made sure I had 30 DC's, which I did. Next row, I made sure I ended up with 25 stitches, which I did. 3rd row, I ended up with 3 extra stitches when the 19 stitches were done. Don't have a clue why I have extra stitches, when I seemed everyone else didn't have this problem. Guess I will have to find another pattern.
Tamara Kelly
Oh, you're on the upper! That wasn't clear from your previous comment. My guess would be that you are working some of the post stitches around only half of the previous round's post stitches.
Anita
Great instructions. Cute and unique. I've been looking for something different. Making the entire set (blanket, hat, booties), along with a sock money, for a friend. Thanks for this!
Tamara Kelly
Thank you Anita!
DeAnna
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I decided to try and learn to crochet last month because my oldest daughter is wanting to learn and I am expecting my 4th in March. I so appreciate people like you that provide free patterns/videos/tutorials. I just made one of these booties and was surprised it turned out perfect. Your instructions and video help were perfect. Now on to the matching bootie. 🙂
Tamara Kelly
Congratulations DeAnna! And thank you! 😀
Teresa
I made a pair of these booties this afternoon. So easy and so adorable! Thanks for sharing this pattern, such a cute baby gift.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you so much Teresa! 😀
Maria j
I was wondering if these booties are just for baby girls?.Can i use this pattern to make booties for a baby boy. i want to make a pair for a baby boy who will be born next month but im not sure if they are booties for baby girls or is the pattern for both genders?
Tamara Kelly
I'd say it's for both! 🙂
Patricia Harris
Hello, these booties are to die for!!!!!!!! Do you think that if I used thicker yarn and larger hook it would make a bigger size? I am a beginner but can do some intermediate patterns.
Tamara Kelly
It depends how big you want to go! But there are some larger sizes linked above in the pattern! 🙂
Lori Ace
I love these little booties and am making them for my three week old granddaughter. Thank you for the pattern
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you Lori - and congratulations on the new baby!!
Tina
I am fairly new to crocheting, but with me following your pattern step-by-step, it appears that the booty will actually be turned inside out (or inside right) when you are done. Is that correct? My work looks perfect...but only from the inside.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Tina! No, it should be Right Side Out... Is it possible you are making back post stitches instead of front post stitches?
Tina
I thought I was doing FP, but I'll view some videos to make sure. Thanks!
Kim
Those Loopy Love Big Baby Booties are adorable. Thank you
Kim
I apologize mistake in the name of the booties:
I meant to say the Loopy Love Newborn Baby Booties are adorable. Sorry!
Tamara Kelly
😀 I do tend to get a little crazy on names, no worries! Thank you so much!
Carol Lucente
Loved starting in rows instead of in the round! Thanks so much!
Tamara Kelly
🙂 I'm so glad you're enjoying the pattern, thank you Carol!
sunita
hi Tamara
loved the look of the booties but am stuck on the abbreviations i would really appreciate it if you. could also post what they stand for to make it easier for beginner like me to follow.
I hope you could add in as i would lice to make them for someone who just gave birth this morning. Was waiting to kmow what sex it was before giving the gift of a blanket booties and bonnet.
would appreciate having bigger sizes too.
Thanks and more power
Tamara Kelly
Hi Sunita! The more unusual abbreviations/stitches, as well as the larger sizes, are all linked at the beginning of the pattern, with the yarn and hook. All the crochet abbreviations can be found HERE. 🙂
Angie Gordey
Yes please! These booties are sooo adorible! What a great job. A sweet couple from my Church had a precous baby girl last month. I wasnt able to buy anything but I can crochet….lol….so will you please add the pattern for a 3-6 months old! Thank you so much for this lovely pattern
Elisabeth Déon
I have done my pair. So cute!
Tamara Kelly
😀 I'm so glad you like them!
Fran
Hi goodness it must be me cant master the fdpc just ends in a blob lol. Have done the soles fine and the back loop doiuble crochet now im stuck. Wonder if you could help? Thanks so much.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Fran! I think the key with the fpdc is to really pull those loops up a bit - and then you can give the stitch a tug upwards after it's finished, to help it settle on the stitch. Here's a video, in case it helps too: click here
Fran
Thank you so much. Had made the hat and now realised i did completely the wrong stitch on the last row! Will try again with booties. X
Fran
Finished a bootie 😀
Tamara Kelly
Woohoo! Now to make the other - always easier, but not as exciting lol.
Kelley
Thank you!
Subayoga
Hi...your pattern is so inspiring to do....its also easy for me to do..my doubt is what is WS(inside) which is mentioned in the picture...thank you for the pattern
Tamara Kelly
Thank you! WS stands for Wrong Side. 🙂
Marie
these look wonderful, I want to try this pattern. It looks easy and simple and looks amazing when finished
Tamara Kelly
🙂 Thank you! I hope you enjoy the pattern!
Debbie Desranleau
Hello! Do you have a tutorial for those adorable Loopy Love newborn baby booties and hat?
Tamara Kelly
I'm afraid I only have a tutorial for the Loopy Love stitch portion: https://www.mooglyblog.com/loopy-love-blanket-tutorial/
Theresa
I found a potential typo in round 3 of the uppers. It says fpdc3tpg, but shouldn’t it be fpdc3tog? I couldn’t find anything anywhere that said what the “tpg” portion meant.
Tamara Kelly
Yes, that would be a typo! Thank you for letting me know!
Debbie Lyon
Hi Tamara and thank you soo... much for this adorable and easy pattern. I made a baby afghan with Caron Simply Soft and have yarn left. I found many hat patterns for that yarn weight, but sadly not many (had to be cute) for booties.
These worked up lovely. I did the soles in Cream, the upper in Mint, and the last two sections I did in Cream. They are so adorable that I've linked the page in my "Baby Layette" folder.
Thank you again for all the hard work that went into this pattern.
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Tamara Kelly
Hi Debbie! Thank you so much! ♥ I'm so glad you enjoyed the pattern!
