When I was at TNNA last month, I was delighted to meet Brenda and Jim Atchison - the dynamic duo behind LickinFlames! They were such fun, and their shawl pins, buttons, and yarn bowls were gorgeous. And they have very generously offered to giveaway 5 of the shawl pins here on Moogly!
Every item that LickinFlames makes, big or small, is unique. They are all handcrafted in Nevada City, California, using a variety of techniques - Saggar, Raku, and Obvara. Words that meant absolutely nothing to me, truth be told, until Brenda and Jim explained a bit more about them!
Jim is the artist behind all the pieces, and his techniques are fascinating. Horsehair, bison, sheep's wool, feathers, old newspapers and even gluten can all play a part! (Don't worry gluten-free folks, as long as you don't eat your shawl pin, you'll be fine! I asked!)
You can read more about these techniques on their site, and here is a video from the LickinFlames youtube page - amazing stuff!
You should definitely check out the LickinFlames site as well as their Facebook page - Jim and Brenda are so fun - and funny! I took home 3 of their gorgeous shawl pins, and even wore one of them on my recent trip to Denver - you'll be able to see evidence of that at the end of the month. I got so many compliments on it too!
All the pieces that LickinFlames makes are unique, beautiful, and drool-worthy, and even better, the company is run by two wonderful people! And they are very generously giving away FIVE of their small shawl pins to five lucky winners! Be sure to read the rules and enter below!

I have a very similar pin but not as beautiful. Mine is made of I think copper but doesn't have your pretty pin in it to hold it place. Mine has a thin bar in the back to weave your scarf through. Your idea of a pin so much more practical. Stunning.

I wear shawls every day, indoors and out. Those pins are lovely!
