Ice Ice, Baby

This past Tuesday we were caught up in the Ice! Storm! 2007! that had all the local weathermen atwitter, and lo and behold, we survived.  We even kept power, when usually we are plunged into a blackout every time the wind looks at us funny.  They did close the schools, so the kids and I had a lovely pajama day.  The Producer, however, is what the kids call “crazy,” and spent the day running errands.  After all, there were no lines, even at the post office! Probably because everyone was at home praying to the gods of roofs and tree branches and trying  not to die.

Everything did get covered in about 1/4″ of ice, and with yesterday’s warming, last night’s re-freeze, and today’s wind gusts, it sounds like someone keeps dumping last year’s christmas cookies on the roof.  This is, I’ve discovered, just the right sort of ambiance for watching Boy-o’s new favorite show - Oola.  Known to the rest of the world as Dora the Explorer.  Oola and Thomas (the tank engine, natch) are Boy-o’s first loves, it seems.  I have to admit I’m enjoying the break from Yo Gabba Gabba - one can only take so much baby trance music.

So in between buying flashlights and changing channels, I’ve been busy trying to get this holiday thing taken care of.  I am both overwhelmed and underwhelmed.  I’m whelmed. So of course I’ve started a new project: the totoro amigurumi.  Why? It makes me happy.  And I’m discovering that that is important.

Even if it results in posts like this one.

FREEBIE OF THE DAY: What would make me happy right now is if someone would bring me some coffee

Ice, indeed! My poor truck was so covered in ice that several buckets of hot water only froze and made it worse before we could get any of it off. The Professor finally took a hammer and chisel to break it into sheets and lift it off. Of course, I know have a large crack on one side of my windshield…

  2. admin Says:

Who let the Professor have tools? Or aren’t those banned until you have the elbow patches?

    Sorry about your truck. :(

  3. The Sister Says:

I was told I needed to think more like a man, if won’t open..hit it!

  4. admin Says:

But aren’t you the one who…ya know…actually uses tools for a living?

  5. The Sister Says:

Apparently not in the right manner. I only use chisels on big rocks. I drive a Ford, not a Chevy.
