As you may have noticed, I've been on quite the needle felting kick lately! And I love making kits - all the supplies you need, plus directions that always manage to teach me something new! So I was excited to give another Going Gnome kit a try - and share a new coupon code so you can save and try them too!
Disclaimer: I was provided a kit for review but all opinions are my own.
I was lucky enough to make a Going Gnome Rock Monster, which is a great beginner kit. So it was time for a new challenge - a kit for the "Confident Beginner!"
This Classic Gnome is a lady with curly hairs just like my own, so how could I resist?! (Though mine haven't turned white quite yet...)
The kit included everything needed to get started, minus the mat to work on. If you don't have one, you can use a folded up towel - just not your "guest towels," as you might end up adding a couple bits of color to the towel by the time you're done!
Like almost all 3D needle felting projects, it all starts with the base shape - and this takes the longest time. Getting the cone just right, nice and dense, is fun too - imagining how this structure will impact the look of my little lady when she's all done. Any weird lumps or bumps, just stab them down (why doesn't that work on MY thighs??).
Then, it's time to start adding details. The instructions lay it all out while leaving you plenty of room to customize your wool sculpture.
And with just one needle at a time, you can really work on those little details! (And if you screw up, add more wool to cover it. Not that I ever mess up, ahem.)
The part I messed up (full disclosure here!) is the lady's chest. Confident beginner tip - do not try to make individual boobs for your lil lady. This is not the look you're going for. My fix - an apron with full coverage! Worked perfectly!
And here's my finished Going Gnome Classic Gnome Lady! Isn't she cute?
Her face and proportions are a little different than the one on the box, but that's part of the fun - each needle felted project shows the hand that made it!
And while I love showing off what I've made, I'm always a little sad when it's finished - and ready to try a new one!
