Ah January. Around here is cold, overcast, and just sort of blah. So I've got the perfect giveaway to bring some color to your day - a Yarn Dyeing Kit from Walnut Farm Designs!
I spent some time playing with one of these fab kits from Walnut Farm Designs this past weekend, and it was so much fun!
I started with the skein of undyed yarn, a packet of blue dye, and instructions from Walnut Farm Designs. At a big box retailer I picked up a stainless steel pot (under $9!), because you can't dye in copper or aluminum, and you can't use the pot for food afterwards. I grabbed a pair of disposable gloves and the vinegar, both of which I had laying around the house already. I also ended up sacrificing a wooden spoon to the cause, and a bit of salt.
And here it is dyeing... which is really hard to photograph btw... so much steam!
And here's how it looks all dyed! Still a bit wet, but I'm loving what I see so far! What I really liked was that it wasn't an intensive process. I could set up the pre-soak, walk away for a while, get the dyeing going, check on it every so often, then just let it cool right in the pot, then do the after soaking in the pot as well. Much easier than I thought!
It's not solid, but I like that! Makes it more interesting, I think. I didn't know what would come out of the pot - but that's what is so fun about it! It's like Easter Egg dyeing for grownups - and in the end you have yarn! I'm sure there is a way more precise and scientific method to dyeing, but I really enjoyed the adventure of it!
Next in my dyeing adventures I'm going to try it on some luscious roving from Walnut Farm Designs. I can't wait! I learned how to use the drop spindle from another Walnut Farm Designs kit, and once you get the hang of it, it's such a fun way to play with fiber! You should definitely check out the Walnut Farm Designs Etsy Shop - so many fun fibery things to explore!
And now I get to share the color and fun! Walnut Farm Designs is giving away one fantastic fiber dyeing kit with everything you need to get started, short of the pot and a pair of gloves (the gloves are probably optional, but I would personally recommend them! The giveaway winner will receive:
- three Cushing's professional acid dye packets (⅓ oz packet each) (each packet dyes approx. 1 lb fiber)
- two 200 yard skeins of DK weight 100% Blue Faced Leicester yarn
- instruction sheets on how to dye and heat set your fiber
Best of all, they are very generously going to ship worldwide! So everyone worldwide can enter using the rafflecopter form below. Thanks for another great giveaway. I'm keeping my fingers, toes, eyes and ears crossed (and that last one is tough, I tell ya!). I've never dyed yarn before but I love to knit with hand dyed yarns. It would be cool to play with this kit and make myself something pretty with the skein.

How fun! Just curious if that would work with Cotton?

I'm certainly no expert, but I would think so!

I'd love to try this product. Another good source for fiber-dyeing pots is the local feed store (such as Tractor Supply). I found a huge stainless steel dog dish (think 16-inches across) that is great for immersion dyeing.

Just took a workshop on natural dyes so this sounds like an awesome giveaway! I like the tie dye effect you got, too. That will make a nice fabric when you knit or crochet.

I really like to win this kit. When I was younger my mother used to die all sorts of fabric. So now it would be nice if I could try for myself! So I could use it to make my own knits and crocheted fabrics. I would really love it... and I would let you know how it turned out. I like you're wool too. It looks so pretty and that it isn't evenly dyed doesn't matter the colour is just right! 😉

LOOKS LIKE FUN! THANK YOU!
