This past weekend I got to dive into the latest class on Craftsy - Custom Fit Tunisian Crochet, taught by the fantastic Dora Ohrenstein. My one word review - AMAZING! But I have a lot more to say below - AND a special link that will get Moogly readers the class for 50% OFF!
Disclaimer: This post includes an affiliate link.
I already knew the name Dora Ohrenstein because I own one of her fantastic books, Custom Crocheted Sweaters: Make Garments that Really Fit. It's one of the most informative books on crochet design I own! So when I got the chance to take this class via Craftsy, I jumped on it!
Custom Fit Tunisian Crochet is broken into 7 lessons, each between 10 and 40 minutes long - great chunks you can watch one at a time, or binge on all at once! It includes a great pullover vest pattern, worksheets, and a metric conversion chart in the materials, and you can buy an optional yarn kit if you like, so you can use the same yarn Dora does in the class!
The class itself is incredibly informative - so much so that you don't even have to have made a sweater before! Dora even goes over the basic Tunisian stitches used, so this can be your first Tunisian project as well. There are lots of closeups, and Dora's instructions are very clear. She also covers the yarn and tools - everything you need to get started!
The depth of knowledge shared in Custom Fit Tunisian Crochet really is...amazing! Everything from how to measure your own body, to creating your own custom schematic, to the types of changes you'll want to make for every body type - including ones that are bigger than the sizes included in the pattern. The finishing info is fantastic too - seaming, blocking, she covers it all.
And I sincerely believe that this class is invaluable to both your average crocheter, and designers as well! I know now that any sweater I design after this will be better for having taken the class - Tunisian or no. In fact, there are fantastic tips and knowledge shared throughout, that apply to regular crochet as well - and knitting too I think!
My mind was simply buzzing with ideas, knowledge, and excitement when I finished this class! I'm so glad to have taken it - and I plan on re-watching sections of it too. Even though I took a ton of notes, I want to make sure to get all the goodies out of it!
So yes... it's Amazing! And what's even more amazing is the deal Dora is providing for Moogly readers!

Darn it, I have been trying so hard to resist the temptation to take that class. You're a very bad influence :p
Just so you know, though, the affiliate link isn't working for me. It may be my iPad, or it could be because I'm in the UK (I don't know if the discount is transferable overseas), or it could be a coding error, but either way I thought it was worthy letting you know just in case.
(I'm going to have a try from a laptop and see if I can make it work from there. Did I mention that you're a really bad influence??! ;))

Mwahahah! 😉
The affiliate link is actually for the Custom Crocheted Sweaters book back at the top. The link for the class isn't an affiliate link, it's the discount class link (just making sure we're on the same page here) - I'm guessing it's the class link giving you trouble? It might for sure be a computer/iPad thing, let me know if you still have trouble when you get to your computer!
Tamara Kelly
Nevermind - it was me! There was a coding error. It should be all fixed now! 🙂 Sorry about that!
SaRah
Thanks* for fixing it!

I just wanted to let you know that I'm officially forgiving you (!) for making (sorta) me take this class, because not only is Dora fantastic and informative, she's also adorable and funny. My kinda class 😉 I hope she makes some more!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Well thank you lol! She is awesome! I'm hoping to get to meet her in person later this month, and I'm afraid I'll make a little bit of a fool out of myself meeting such a rock star!
Sarah
I'm sure you'll be fine, but she comes across as very down to earth and funny, so she'll probably put you at your ease even if you do feel like you've made a fool out of yourself! Sounds like fun, I hope you have a blast meeting her 😀
Tamara Kelly
😀 I agree - and thanks!

The link doesn't work for me either. I'm in the US, so I think it is the link that is not working, not our computers. Looks like a great class at an equally great price.

The html gods were not smiling on me this morning. Sorry about the confusion! It took several tries but I do think it's working now. If clicking on it doesn't work, copy and paste it into your browser instead. We'll get you there somehow!
maureen
Thank You, it works! Thanks for the great review of the class, too. This will be my first foray into a garment.
Tamara Kelly
Whew! Glad to hear it! 😀 Hope you enjoy it too!

Thank You, it works! Thanks for the great review of the class, too.
Sarah
It worked when I tried it after Tamara had fixed it 🙂

Dora does such a great job teaching advanced crochet skills even to beginners. Nice share.
