Get ready, because I've got a super fun new Mini CAL for you this month - featuring 2 patterns over 3 weeks! You can make one or both... with just 3 skeins of yarn!
This Mini Crochet Along features a "baby and me" pair - a Cupcake Baby Blanket for the new arrival, and a super sweet little matching Cupcake Toddler Purse for her big sister! I'll be sharing the pattern for the blanket in two parts, with the purse the week after that! Here's the schedule:
June 10th - Cupcake Blanket part 1, with Lion Brand Ice Cream Big Scoop (1 ball, Tutti Frutti shown)
June 17th - Cupcake Blanket part 2, with Lion Brand Ice Cream Sprinkles (2 balls, Rainbow shown)
June 24th - Cupcake Toddler Purse, with the leftover Big Scoop and Sprinkles (stashbuster!)
I can't wait to see your blankets and purses - I hope you'll join me for this fun and free mini crochet along!

Where can I buy the big scoop skein? It isn't available on Amazon until September. I couldn't find it at JoAnn's either. I'd love to make this for my 8 year old!
Tamara Kelly
You can order it directly from Lion Brand, it's linked in the post above!

Great! Thank you!!

Hi! I was wondering where you ordered the big scoop yarn? Amazon won't have it until September.?
Tamara Kelly
You can order it directly from Lion Brand - it's linked in the post above!

This is so great!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you!
Alka
I hope to do the toddler purse with you 🙂 Will you be including any alternative yarn brands we could potentially use out of our stash? Thanks!
Tamara Kelly
Any DK or Sport weight yarn should work, although since sizing isn't a must here, a worsted would work well too - you'd just have slightly bigger end products. 🙂
Carrie St. Julien
Gah! I want to do this but it might be a bit before I can buy more yarn. 🙁

I have 4 kids so I could make 1 for each of them.
Tamara Kelly
No worries! The patterns will be available free on Moogly for years to come! 🙂

Awesome!

So do we need to sign up for CAL or will it just be posted on your FB or blog? I so want to do this one.
Tamara Kelly
No need to sign up - just join in and crochet along! 😀

So excited for this! But my kiddos are all a bit older. Any way there will be a co version for how to make it a bit larger? Thanks in advance!
Tamara Kelly
This yarn is DK weight, so to make a bigger blanket you could just bump up to an Aran like Vanna's Choice, or even on up to a Super Bulky like Wool-Ease Thick & Quick (going up proportionately in hook size as well). 🙂

Any idea of what the yardage might be if one were to use a worsted weight? I cannot get this blanket out of my mind! I want to go buy yarn NOW lol.. Also I'm pregnant with a boy, and my oldest son (11) says that even if its in blues its still too "girly"... I cant decide, either way I love it and I'm making it!
Tamara Kelly
Yardage should be similar, but buying a little extra might not hurt. 🙂
Dana
I got the yarn and am all ready to make this for my nieces 1st birthday. She already loves her baby blanket I made her and this was just too cute to pass up!! I saw some of the Big Scoop at one of my craft stores a week or so ago. There weren't many and of course I couldn't remember which one I found it at, so I just purchased 3 regular skeins so I could get started.
Tamara Kelly
Yay! Just an hour and a half to go and the pattern will be up - part 1 that is!
Erin
Any suggestions for making this lap sized for an adult? I want one for myself!! 🙂 You are so talented, this is the cutest pattern!
Tamara Kelly
Hi Erin, thank you! Thicker yarn and a bigger hook - or holding this yarn doubled with a larger hook - should make a bigger blanket! 🙂
Donna
Love your pattern cant wait for part 2
I am almost on row 78 which if I did it right is row 5 I am a little confused about the 79 row 78 and 78 is 156 stitches
After I do 78 stitches on the side do I single 90 stitches to get to the other side for my 78 single on the opposite side?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Donna!
Row 78 has 90 sts, just like every row before it. But then you turn 90 degrees (90°) to work Row 79 along the top of the "cupcake paper liner" that you've been making. This is the top, or widest side. Does that help?

Where can you get the sprinkles yarn. It doesn't show on Lion Brand site.
Tamara Kelly
The Sprinkles ones are on the same page as the "regular" ice cream, just scroll down a bit! 🙂
Dee
Is the Ice Cream Big Scoop yarn available in stores in Detroit, and if so where? Someone looked earlier at Myers but note it's supposed to be in stores in September.
Tamara Kelly
I'm afraid I don't have any inside info on where it's sold - I do know you can order it directly from Lion Brand!
