Toothy Inspiration
Did you know that August 22nd is National Tooth Fairy Day here in the USA? And did you also know that my youngest, now 7 and a half years old, has still not lost a single tooth?
Our tooth fairy window may close before it opens with this one... so I made the Tooth Fairy's Tooth Pillow in the hopes we'll get to use it sooner rather than later! And of course, I'm sharing the fun free crochet pattern with all of you!
Tooth Pillow Traditions
The Tooth Fairy's Tooth Pillow is perfectly unisex, while still being cute and fun! You can leave it as a pillow to tuck in next to their own, or add a strap to hang it from a doorknob or bedpost - whatever the tooth fairy at your house prefers.
And it works up quick - in less time than it takes for a little wiggle to go to "MOM! My tooth!!"

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:
- Make all the pieces listed above.
- Sew the eyes to the tooth; add the smile with scrap yarn.
- Sew the wings to the sides of the tooth as shown.
- Sew the tooth to one of the pillow pieces, leaving the top of the tooth open to form a pocket. NOTE: You can sew it so that either end is "up" - just leave an opening for the cash!
- Sc along edge, through both pillow pieces, wrong sides together. When there's a bit of room left, stuff it with fiber filling before finishing seam.
- Add hanging cord if desired.
A NOTE ABOUT BUTTONS AND CORDS:
Before anyone gets upset that I am recommending cords and buttons on a children's item - the Tooth Fairy's Tooth Pillow pattern is intended for children 4 years of age and older - which is when most kids start losing teeth.
At this age, they shouldn't be chewing buttons off things (especially with gap-toothed smiles!), and if they are, these buttons are small enough that swallowing them won't hurt anyone.
Options!
But if you're really worried, please embroider on eyes using scrap yarn instead. And make the cord short enough they can't get it over their head, or just leave it off! It's all optional!
I hope both you and the toothless littles enjoy this free Tooth Fairy's Tooth Pillow crochet pattern!

cute pattern! 🙂 my son was 9 before he lost a single tooth!! now he's 10 1/2 and lost the majority of his baby teeth - once he started they just all came out lol
Tamara Kelly
Wow! Good to hear we're not alone! 😀 I suspect I'll have a toothless one myself once it starts!
Renee Melton
This is such a cute idea!! I definitely need to make these for my niece and nephews 🙂
(My daughter didn't lose her first tooth until she was almost 8. My son is 6 and has no loose teeth yet. Apparently our kids want to hold on to their baby teeth!)
Tamara Kelly
I always say it's just part of my kids' stubborn nature - he never likes to give anything up lol! Thank you Renee!
Abbie
I am definitely making this for my son. Thank you! He is almost 8 years old and only has lost one tooth so far. The dentist keeps telling him that she is glad he is holding on to those baby teeth so long! But I know he really wants that toothless grin just like all his buddies!
Tamara Kelly
Ah, a compatriot! 😀 I didn't even realize some kids waited so long til mine did! Thanks so much Abbie!
Stephanni
this is so cute! I'm going to make one for my almost 6 yr old that is about to lose her upper 2 teeth, she already lost the 2 bottom teeth. my kid doesn't mess around! 😉
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thanks so much Stephanni! I think when my guy finally starts he'll be running at a similar pace lol!
Patricia
This is EXACTLY what I needed! My youngest daughter lost her 1st one a few days ago and the 2nd on is loosely on it's way. I made a tooth pillow with felt some years ago for my big girl and now I didn't want to make a felt one but a crocheted one, couldn't find any I like but this one is just perfect! Thank you very much!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Congrats to your little one, what a big day! And thank you Patricia!
Zouglounette
so cute I will do one soon ....
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you!
Andrea
This is adorable, I'm making one now! Did you do a sc around the outside of the tooth and wings? My tooth didn't look nearly as smooth and it looks like yours has an edging to it. Just curious, thanks! And thanks for the pattern!,
Tamara Kelly
Yes, I did sc around the tooth - I'm sorry I forgot to include that in the pattern! I'll add it now. 🙂

So cute! I would love to make this for my grandson. It's nice that the pattern is printable but I have a Kindle Fire that you can't print from. I wish all patterns were downloadable. But will write it down so I can make it.
Tamara Kelly
Thank you Cathy! You can also use the Print Friendly button to create a downloadable PDF. 🙂
marianne
This is a great pattern! Being a beginner crocheter and a dental hygienist....this is perfect! My only critic is....I think I'm going to turn it around to point the roots down!???!?
Tamara Kelly
Thanks Marianne! I debated making it a top tooth or bottom tooth... but eventually went with top tooth so that the real teeth didnt' get lost down in the little roots! 😛 I've seen both since though and either way works!
Laura trautman
what does the "sc2tog" mean? I know "sc" means single crochet but what does the rest mean? I am not familiar with it. Thanks!!
Tamara Kelly
Hi Laura! sc2tog is single crochet two together, sometimes referred to as a sc decrease, or sc dec. You can see a tutorial video for it here: sc2tog video
Christina
My son got his first loose tooth this week. i was going through patterns on here and we both seen this and loved it. it took me about 2 hours to complete. start of "what colors do u want K" to Here it's done. Last night was out first tooth fairy encounter with him. He was sooo tickled to have a tooth pillow. he talked to it till he fell asleep last night. This little project sure made his experience a memorable one for the whole house. One thing i changed though was, i put about 1/4 cup of rice in the bottom of an old sock and sewn it up, then put that in the pillow part along with some stuffing. that way this pillow had a little weight to it. "to make sure the envelope with the tooth in it didn't blow away" 🙂 thank u for this idea
Tamara Kelly
😀 That's fantastic Christina! Great idea on the rice. And such a sweet story! ♥ Thank you!
Jenice rosales

Rhoda
I saw this and thought that I need to make it for my 2nd grandson because he's 6½ and hasn't lost any teeth yet. Then I saw that your child still hasn't lost any either. Are you aware that it is actually an advantage? Studies have shown that kids who lose teeth later end up having better dental health. I think it makes sense because the later they come in, the less wear and tear they have years later. I have also read that one factor is the child having been breast fed. Anyway, it's really cute. I hope it's small enough that I will be able to finish it. I am not a crocheter and might just knit it if I can't figure out the crochet pattern. Thanks for posting it.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Rhoda! I did not know that! Now that he is 8 he has finally lost a couple. I hope it holds true for him. (And he was definitely breast fed, how interesting!) Thank you! 🙂 It's a pretty quick project!
Mary Bishney
I've made several of these and just now looking at this pattern I've noticed Row 8 is missing. You go from from Row 7 to Row 8a and are down from 9 stitches to 6. I'm going to fudge what I can to get it back down to 6 but can you give me the actual instructions for Row 8 please?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Mary! Row 8 is broken into A and B portions - there is nothing missing. When you straight from Row 7 to 8A, note that the last 6 sts of Row 7 are left unworked, as stated in the instructions. Then you skip 3 and work in the last 3 for 8B.
Mary Bishney
Thank you for this response. I do see it that now.
Barbara
When my son and his friends were beginning to loose their teeth; I made up pillows for them from material. It was the birthday present for all that year. Now my granddaughter was just born. I will make up one of these and put it in the "box" for the baby in the future
Leslie Mansfield
My granddaughter is 5 and she had a fall two weeks ago and loosened her two bottom teeth and lost one that day and called me crying cause she didn't want to loose that tooth but when the tooth fairy came she was all smiles. Then a few days later lost the other one. All this happened while grandma was on vacation so when I get home I need to maker her a tooth Fairey pillow.
Tamara Kelly
♥ Aw, love the magic of the tooth fairy!
Anne
I've started to make this adorable tooth fairy pillow for my grandson but find myself stuck on row 8b. Could you please tell me how to join my yarn to the tooth to make those remaining 3 sc on that row? Thanks very much!!
Tamara Kelly
Hi Anne! You'll want to make a slip stitch with the yarn in the indicated stitch. 🙂
Anne
Ok then I should sc in the same stitch as the slip stitch?
Geeta
Thank you I am making one for my grand son
