Can I just say how much I love crocheting? You can take a big giant hook and hold several strands of thick yarn together and make a super thick blanket. You can take tiny thread and hooks and make ultra delicate doilies. And you can take some gorgeous hooks, stainless steel wool, and sparkly yarn... and make a Mini Garland or Necklace!

While I was originally thinking this pattern would just be for jewelry, I soon realizes that these would make amazing garlands for tabletop (or heck, full sized!) holiday and Christmas trees! They're so fun to make, it's hard to stop! I used my Clover Amour Steel Crochet Hook, Lion Brand Bonbons, and added LB Collection Wool Stainless Steel for extra body - and spent a weekend afternoon happy as a clam!

- US - 0/1.75mm hook (Clover Amour Stainless Steel)
- 10+ yds Lion Brand Bonbons (Party pack, yarn symbol "2", Fine weight)
- 10+ yds LB Collection Wool Stainless Steel (Pewter, yarn symbol "0", Lace weight)
NOTE: Hold both yarns together as one while you crochet, for all parts of the project.
For Each Flag (make as many as desired):
Row 1: Ch 2, work 3 dc in the 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), work 2 dc in the 1st st, dc in the next st, work 2 dc in the last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: Ch 2, work 2 dc in the 1st st, dc in next 3 sts, work 2 dc in last st. Break yarn and weave in ends. (7 sts)
For the Swag/Chain: Chain to desired length.
Assembly:
Join with a sl st to the top left corner of the center flag. Sc evenly along the edge to the bottom point. Work 3 sc into the bottom point, then sc evenly along up to the top. Then, positioning the rope behind the top row of the flag, at the top right corner, work 2 sc into the corner stitch and sc in each st along the top of the flag, enclosing the rope in each stitch. At the end of the row, drop the rope and work an additional sc in the side of the top left corner. Break the yarn and seamless join to the first edging sc. Weave in ends. Repeat this process for each flag. Working out from the middle with help with spacing.
It helps to block the flags and chain after assembly. I simply pinned them out straight on my blocking board, and then spritzed them with water! If you're going to wear it as a necklace, there are jewelry findings you may want to add to the ends. Or a little bow is very sweet!
Super fun, and kind of addictive! The necklaces with 5 flags take about 10 yards each (probably less!), so this is a super economical project. You can get a whole lot of flags out of your yarn! The LB Collection Wool Stainless Steel is only available on their website, so if you cannot get it, you can try using a smaller hook to get the same stiffness, or starching it lightly with glue and water. I can't wait to see what you all do with this crochet bunting mini garland or necklace pattern!
