Getting older happens to every one of us if we're lucky - and for most, that eventually includes reading glasses! I've recently started using them myself, and I can really see how it helps my stitching (no pun intended)! So I reached out to Readers.com to share the love - with a review and giveaway here on Moogly!

Way back at the turn of the millennium, I worked for a year or two as an optician - I helped find the best glasses for each person's face shape and lifestyle and made sure they fit properly too. It was a fun job, and I learned a lot about eye health!
One of the things I learned was how our eyes change as we get older. The muscles that help our eyes focus at different ranges start getting tired, and not working as well. This usually happens right around age 40 or so, and over the next decade, many people's eye doctors will switch them to multifocal glasses - either the traditional bifocals or the more modern progressive lenses.
But for those of us who wear contacts, or don't otherwise wear glasses, non-prescription reading glasses are a simple and easy solution!
As soon as I turned 40 I started noticing that I was struggling a little to see my stitches with finer yarn - like clockwork! I wear contacts normally, so a trip to my eye doctor confirmed it. And he told me to go grab some readers from the grocery store!
I did that - and it helped... but the vision was terrible. The lenses were foggy and the optical quality just wasn't there. I tried again with a different pair and didn't fare any better. I needed to see my stitches! So I turned to Readers.com for help - and I'm in love with my first pair of real *quality* reading glasses!
I went with The Alaska Multifocal Computer Reader - which was perfect for my needs! They are well made and trendy and they feature three powers in each lens: the bottom portion of the lens is for reading, the middle portion is for computer use, and the top portion is the weakest, for seeing a few feet away.
They also have an anti-reflective coating, which helps to reduce eye strain, and a wide fit for my big noggin'!
Of course, Readers.com has a lot more styles than that - and many more than you'll find at the drug store. Including reading sunglasses, great for those who need to follow GPS or maps, or work outdoors - or just like to sit outside and crochet!
There are plastic frames, wire frames, semi-rimless frames, rimless frames, and even safety glasses - so many styles and shapes. One type of glasses I'd never seen before was the MakeUp Readers (and they even have a few styles of these)! These are definitely my next purchase from Readers.com - I need these for applying eyeliner asap!
And most of them are $20 or less - perfect for trying lots of styles! Or putting a pair in your project bag, and another in your purse, on your desk, etc... And there are always great codes and sales to check out too!
Ordering from Readers.com is super easy, as each pair description includes tons of details on the fit and a wide variety of power ranges. While I only need a +1.00 right now, seeing that they go all the way up to +6.00 in some of their styles means they've got something for just about anyone!
The people at Readers.com are super helpful too. They have a live chat available to answer your questions, and there's lots of great info on the site to help you navigate the world of reading glasses if they are new to you too - be sure to check out the blog linked at the bottom of the site!

Thank you for this terrific information. Like you, I can't crochet well with my readers, so now I only crochet outside in natural light, which means only crocheting on days the temps are above 50 degrees. 🙁 I will definitely try these!
