The Big Bold Chevron Curtains (click HERE for the free pattern!) are a popular project on Moogly - and I've got more projects in the works with this stitch pattern too! However, like many chevron patterns, this one can get a little confusing. So here's a video tutorial and chart to help walk you through the Big Bold Chevron Stitch!
Big Bold Chevron Stitch Video Tutorial
I hope that helps clear up any confusion! In the video I used Red Heart With Love yarn and a US-K, 6.5mm hook. However, this pattern can be made with any size yarn and the appropriate hook. The repeat for this pattern is a multiple of 19, plus 5. And if you're thinking it would make a great blanket, then stay tuned.... 😉

I also want to give a shout out to JORD Watches, creators of the amazing wooden watch I'm wearing in this video - that's right, it's WOOD! The only metal touching me is the clasp. I love it so much - it looks great and feels wonderful on. Thank you so much to JORD Watches for sponsoring this video tutorial!

Thanks' Tamara! I was having a bit of confusion with how this was supposed to work. The chart cleared all of that up. Now I doubt their would have been any confusion at all if I had just followed you pattern. Instead I had to try and second guess what you were doing and try to understand it 😉
I'm thinking this would make a great poolside wrap. With this cake maybe 🙂

MARRIE

Thankyou for your haelp
Actually I have visited your website from a long tym ago.. i have many new adventures to view now! 😛
Debra
Do you have a video for lefthanded ? If not when you do the video please lay out to show what it looks like. I have tried to do pattern but the ends curve inward is that what they look like.
Tamara Kelly
Hi Debra! I don't have a left handed video for this one but I can make one! To see the finished look for this stitch, take a look at the Big Bold Chevron Blanket or Big Bold Chevron Curtain. The sides should be straight up and down. I'll try to get a left handed video done asap!
Mieche
The pattern was written just the way a pattern should be written. Everyone that writes a pattern should follow your lead. In addition, you created a great video. Keep up the good work and thank you!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much Mieche! That means a lot to me!
Diane
Great video. Just have one question. When would I change colors? Would the chain 4 be my color change? Thanks!
Tamara Kelly
Thanks Diane! The color changes are detailed in the written pattern: https://www.mooglyblog.com/big-bold-chevron-curtain/ 🙂
Madeline Bresler
This pattern is one of the fastest, easiest blankets to make, and people LOVE it! Thanks for the tutorial!
Tamara Kelly
😀 Thank you so much Madeline!
Anna
Can you do this stitch using double crochet instead of triple?
Tamara Kelly
Absolutely! 😀 It won't be quite as "lacey" but it should work just fine!
Adrian
I would love to see this adapted for a scarf! It would be gorgeous!
Tamara Kelly
A little closer to winter I think! 😉 Thank you!
Bonnie
This has got to be one of THE best video tutorials I have EVER watched. I cannot wait to use this stitch to make some curtains for my apartment, and I also believe I will use this stitch for a prayer shawl for my younger sister who lives in Mississippi. It's always warm down there, and this would be a perfect stitch for a shawl.
Thank you SO much for taking the time to do this tutorial. It was just amazing!
Tamara Kelly
Wow, thank you so much Bonnie! 😀
Brittany
If I wanted to use a different wieght yarn, say fingering wieght instead of worsted, would a K hook still work or do you think it would be too loose?
Tamara Kelly
I think with Fingering a K would be too loose, I'd probably drop down to an H or I hook - try both, and see which gives the look you like best! 🙂
Vita
Hi Tamara, I need to make a throw with a Chevron V, as in a Navy stripe. I only see videos with the Chervon pattern with continuous V. Can you help?
Tamara Kelly
Hi Vita! Are you looking for one big V across the entire blanket, or a blanket made in straight rows with a bunch of Vs for one row?
Lavita Aaron
Hi, yes a V across the entire blanket.
Tamara Kelly
Hm, this is a tough one, I haven't been able to find a chevron blanket worked like this either. But I did have a couple ideas! You could try tapestry style crochet to create the large chevron, C2C, or you could make granny squares like the ones shown in this pattern, where the colors are "halved" and line them up to create a big chevron! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/step-on-in-rug
Cassandra
Hi love I message you before but try here to .. I have window that have to have 3 seperate curtains to it 26inches wide forOne
22inches and 19inches
I need to side curtains and one on top. How in the world would I make this if your patterns is different
Please help I want these curtains
Tamara Kelly
Hi Cassandra! To make this pattern wider or narrower, you add or subtract a multiple of 19 sts. Most curtains have a little bit of "extra" - they aren't completely flat when closed, right? So for the 26" wide curtain, I'd start with 100 chains. For the 22" wide, you need to choose - either 100 chs (a little wide) or 81 chs (a little narrow). For the 19" curtain, you'll want to start with 81 chs, as the next size down would be too small for sure. I hope that helps!
