The Big Bold Chevron Cowl features super bulky yarn and lots of great looks in one quick crochet project. You can make this cowl in an evening, with just 2 balls of yarn, and wear it out the next day - and the next, and the next - and get a different look every time!
Big Bold Chevron Cowl

- US - M/N, 9.00 mm hook (Clover Jumbo Hook recommended)
- 210 yds Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick (Super Bulky; 80% Acrylic/20% Wool; 106 yds/97 m; 6 oz)
Color A: Fisherman (099) - 1 ball
Color B: Claret (143) - 1 ball - Gauge: 8 sts x 3 rows = 4" in pattern

Special Stitches:
- Tr – triple/treble crochet (click HERE for video tutorial)
- Tr2tog over 4 ch: Work a tr in the next st, until there are 2 loops left on the hook, skip 2 ch, work tr in the next ch until there are 3 loops left on the hook, yo and pull through all 3 loops
INSTRUCTIONS
Row 1: With Color A, ch 43, tr in 6th ch from hook (counts as tr2tog), *[ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch] 3 times, ch 1, skip 1 ch, in next ch work (tr, ch 3, tr), [ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch] 3 times, ch 1, skip 1 ch**, tr2tog over next 4 ch; repeat from * to **, work tr2tog over last 3 ch, skipping the second ch, turn. (19 sts excluding chs)
Rows 2 - 7: Ch 4, tr in next st (counts as tr2tog), *[ch 1, skip ch, tr in next st] 3 times, ch 1, in ch-3 sp work (tr, ch 3, tr), [ch 1, skip ch, tr in next st] 3 times, ch 1, skip ch**, tr2tog over 3 sts, skipping the tr2tog from previous row (in the center); repeat from * to ** , work tr2tog over last 3 sts, working the second half into the top of the turning ch, turn. (19 sts) Break yarn after Row 7.
Rows 8 - 14: With Color B, repeat Row 2. Break yarn after Row 14.
Row 15 and 16: With Color A, repeat Row 2. Break yarn after Row 16.
Row 17 and 18: With Color B, repeat Row 2. Break yarn after Row 18.
Row 19 and 20: With Color A, repeat Row 2. Break yarn after Row 20.
Row 21 and 22: With Color B, repeat Row 2. Break yarn after Row 20, leaving a 24" tail.
Sew Row 22 to Row 1, without twisting, using the Whip Stitch. Weave in ends.
Just 22 rows and done! And wow do they work up fast - and warm too. I love the way you can wear this cowl to show off the different portions of the pattern - making the chevron more or less obvious, with all different looks!
