This stressed out mom and my crew of insane monkey-like creatures: Queenie, Boy-o, and Bon Bon. Oh, and sometimes their dad, The Producer.

A Promise is a Promise… Wedding Redux

My little brother was married to the woman of his dreams Saturday.  He and his bride are 100% made for each other, and I could not be happier for them.  The wedding and rehearsal were, to the guests, a lovely, unique, and fun event.

Behind the scenes… The wedding was unrehearsed and a bit spontaneous, the groom was an hour late for photos (taken pre-ceremony) due to a last minute tux snafu, the bride nearly fell in a pond, Bon Bon fussed throughout as his Papa tried to give him an upside-down pacifier, and the ringbearer (Boy-o) had to be carried, sulking, down the aisle by moi.  But to the casual observer, it was all good, and in fact was a touching ceremony that brought tears to my eyes.

The reception was held at my parents’ house, in the spacious and lovely second garage… and required 3 hours in the kitchen for myself, The Nana, and The Sister (for the “easy heat and eat” meal), and was riddled with under-supervised children (given the close proximity of corn fields and water features).  The Producer and I shared one dance - The Chicken Dance - which we also shared with Boy-o and Queenie.

There were a plethora of good things, quirky things, and things that made me cry, both in happiness and sorrow.  The snowcone and popcorn machines were a huge hit (a variety of fruit flavors for the kiddies, rum and pina colada mix for the grumps).  The food did manage to come out on time and was enjoyed by all.  There was a pre-dinner slide show, complete with an “in loving memorial” shot of our brother (deceased last year at age 27) as a toddler that had me sobbing.  Queenie danced for 5 hours straight.

The reception hall (erstwhile garage) was a luau-kitch-tchotchke-lovers wet dream. (That’s me and a nursing Bon Bon in the back corner there.)

And the wedding cake was just so very right for these two crazy kids.

As was the groom’s cake. (Yes, Star Wars.)

And once you see 4 women all running around in that dress, it just starts to fade away and become part of the background of an exhausting but really really wonderful day.  That I’m really glad is over.

Now we are back home, where we can relax. Can you feel the love?

Wow, that sounds like a fun time. The carebear cake has me laughing!

How sweet about the slide show and pic of your brother.

What did you do with the dress now that it’s over?

  3. admin Says:

Lisa, it lays crumpled next to the laundry basket. It’s dry clean only, so it’ll be sitting there for awhile. Think I could sell it?

  4. Lisa Says:

Well, only to someone looking for a very *specific* dress.

I loved the cake ! I love the decor! I don’t know your brother and SIL well, but from what little I got to know of them, it seems like a perfect fit! Really, it looks like a beautiful time!
