Last week I covered some great crochet costumes for kids, so this week it's time for all the grown ups! I've gathered 10 costume ideas and 13 free patterns for men, women, and monsters, and time is ticking...so let's get started!
- Mad Eye Moody - If you're crazy about Harry Potter but don't want to do the traditional striped scarf, this eye patch from Kelly's Stuff will help you create one of the more unique characters - and give you an excuse to be delightfully belligerent!
- Viking or Dwarf- All you need is this amazing beard by Melissa Campbell, and maybe a hat and plastic ax... but it's the beard that everyone will be looking at! Amazing! It's a free download on Ravelry, and one that never fails to make me happy just looking at it.
- Ood - It's a little late to start a Doctor Who scarf (unless you knit like the wind!), but the DoctorDonna would very much approve of this Ood ski mask! Make the translator orb in the pattern or get creative and make a tiny hind brain - either way you'll have some fans!
- Pirate - Whether you want a swashbuckling pirate captain hat or a pirate wench, there are free patterns for that! Add an eye patch and you'll be all set!
- Hula Dancer - This one has been a hit for decades - with both men and women of course! Pick up a "grass" skirt, or crochet a quick belt and tie on long strands of green yarn to make your own. Add this Coconut Bra from Knit Witty and you'll be all set!
- Vampire - If you aren't into sparkling in the sun, this classic vampire cape from Red Heart will turn any outfit into something classically spooky and appealing! Count Von Count would approve too.
- Bellydancer - Bellydancing is super hot right now, and bellydancers look good at every party! All you need is a skirt or pants, this Bellydance Fringe Belt by Handmade Gypsy and a Gold Top by Dina Rashevska. Add a pair of finger cymbals and done!
- Brain Slug Victim - The infamous Brain Slugs from Futurama control their victims while sitting atop their heads. This hat pattern from Jezebear Designs and a monotone voice are all you need to pull off this costume!
- Eaten Alive - Whether you're the monster or the monster's latest victim, this hat from BarPurple's Dropped Stitches will keep you warm, and festive too. Perfect for taking the kids trick or treating in colder climates!
- Star Wars Twi'lek - Star Wars fans will recognize this amazing hat as part of the perfect Aayla Secura, Twi'lek Jedi Knight costume. This one is great for Halloween or cosplay any time of year! Sure to impress!
Handmade Halloween costumes are great for kids, and they're great for adults too! Crochet costumes help you stand out in a sea of naughty nurses and plastic vests, and they last a lot longer too.
Do you dress up for Halloween? For parties or just for fun while trick or treating? Are there any great costumes or patterns I missed? Share them in the comments!
